Winter Wellness Soup
Who has arrived in the kitchen without a clue as to what to make for dinner? Oh, please tell me I'm not the only one!

When things work out right the first time, it’s always a sweet surprise! So much in this life lingers on, requiring a healthy dose of delayed gratification. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose. It builds character and encourages creativity.
But every once in a while, don’t you hope for something to succeed without taking so much time and energy?
What do you reach for when something comforting calls your name?
If you’re like me, once in a while, the call is answered by something impulsive and, well, afterwards quite aggravating. As a food lover, the wrong foods often filled the spot where something more inspiring should have sat. But for you, perhaps it’s not a palate pleasing, oral fix you seek to feed your need for comfort.
Have I mentioned how I ‘oh so adore’ autumn? Sure, every season has complications and warrants complaints but the things of this season simply speak to me in a crisp, clear voice, ‘settle in, sister….sink into the season of snuggles and comfort.’
So much, in fact, that I must make moderation and self-control my skill to practice! You know what I mean, right? When something’s calling your name…its scent tickles your senses and its qualities quicken your heart….and you want more.
Yeah. Autumn once again carries callings requiring some self-restraint.
I knew I had to save this one for my Members! It's something special in taste and nutrition.
This is one of those recipes that speaks for itself! I have been stuck on it for many lunches already and I love how it fills me up with nutritionally dense ingredients while providing a really awesome flavor combination. It's satisfying as a lunch yet light enough that I feel energetic after enjoying it.
I'd love for you to let me know what you think!
Don’t you just love it when things turn out the way you want them to…or even better than your original expectations?!
Well, the day I created this salsa recipe I was experiencing exactly the opposite. From the time I woke up until my head hit the pillow hard, the girls and I struggled to make it unscathed through the moments.
I know, I know…I’m the adult….set the tone, be the example. Well, my parenting strategy started off all wrong.
Things are just not always as they seem, are they? We want to look all put-together (at least once in a while!), we try to hide the imperfections in our attitudes and we keep any signs of self-consciousness behind closed doors. And our pasts, let’s just say we can leave those behind us, right!?
It’s understandable, really. Why would we want to divulge what others might judge us for before they’ve fallen in love with us first? So, we put our best faces forward and hope any ugliness is only revealed after it’s already forgiven.
It's fresh, not too sweet, not too strong or savory. It's just a soft, semi-sweet, sorta savory salad for pleasant weather days when you need a heavy dose of health in the form of real food. I put it all together in hopes of using up some fresh herbs I'd bought for another purpose. After that recipe didn't work out so well, I decided I needed a bright fresh salad to pick up my mood post failure.
Let's just say this worked out for me.
I never ate a sprout of any kind, unless it hid in the depths of a dish, until adulthood. Those little baby cabbage-like things looked less than appetizing to me. So, I walked past their produce bin disregarding the plethora of health benefits in those green, leafy little balls called Brussels sprouts.
It’s like that with a lot of things in my life actually. I unknowingly walk past little pieces of life, bins filled with blessings, without realizing what I’ve missed.
I stood staring into the open refrigerator, cooling the kitchen and warming the food. You know, the way you were always told NOT to growing up.
The problem wasn’t the contents of the food in the fridge. From fresh produce to farm fresh eggs, organic yogurt, even some leftover black bean burgers, the fridge overflowed. I’m blessed at our food bounty! And ashamed at my appetite’s ambiguity sometimes.
So, I stood there staring blank into the bounteous refrigerator.
